Reaching your customers online without a social media strategy is like sailing without a compass – you might move, but you’re unlikely to reach your destination.
Here is a powerful set of AI prompts created by me that transforms the often overwhelming process of creating a social media marketing strategy into a straightforward, step-by-step journey 😊
Use ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or any other LLM for this, starting with the first prompt, which is below this initial overview of the prompts.
What This Framework Covers
The prompts guide you through the essential building blocks of any effective social media strategy:
- Setting SMART objectives that align with your business goals
- Creating detailed audience personas that go beyond basic demographics
- Developing a channel strategy to reach your audience where they actually are
- Establishing content pillars that showcase your expertise
- Generating practical content ideas tailored to your audience’s questions
- Building paid social media media campaigns with proper targeting and messaging
- Crafting high-converting landing pages and ad copy
- Mapping out an execution roadmap with clear milestones
Why Strategic Marketing Matters
1. Cuts Through the Noise
The digital space is more crowded than ever. Without strategy, you’re just adding to the noise. A focused approach ensures your message reaches the right people at the right time – making your marketing spend work harder and your content actually resonate.
2. Prevents Wasted Resources
Random acts of marketing drain budgets faster than anything else. Strategy forces you to think about the “why” behind every tactic, preventing you from chasing shiny objects or spreading yourself too thin across platforms where your audience isn’t even active.
3. Creates Consistency That Builds Trust
When your marketing efforts tell a coherent story across channels, you build brand recognition and trust. Social media strategy ensures you’re not sending mixed messages or confusing potential customers about what you stand for.
4. Makes Performance Measurement Possible
Without clear objectives, how do you know if you’re succeeding? A solid strategy establishes meaningful KPIs from the start, so you can track what’s working and quickly pivot away from what isn’t.
5. Turns Trends Into Opportunities
The digital landscape constantly evolves, but strategy gives you a framework to evaluate new platforms and trends. Instead of panicking about every algorithm change or new social network, you can assess them against your objectives and audience needs.
Whether you’re a solopreneur getting started or a marketing team looking to refresh your approach, these prompts offer a practical way to create a strategy that drives real results—without getting lost in marketing jargon or theoretical frameworks that don’t translate to action.
Social Media Strategy AI Prompts
Before you start…
- Any AI chatbot can do this but Claude and Gemini have longer context windows than ChatGPT, so can remember longer chats.
- Use each prompt one-by-one, in sequence, to build a long chat conversation that will form your strategy.
- Your information goes in [the bits in red].
- Don’t worry about your bits being messy thoughts, quickly bashed out. AI will make sense of it!
- If you have any public or internal documents about what your business does, the strategy etc, add them for context
- Once you’ve got your strategy written, you could turn it into a slide deck with Gamma.app

Objective Setting
You are an expert social media marketing strategist who speaks and writes fluent English in a professional but down-to-earth tone.
Define SMART social media marketing objectives and KPIs in a structured format. Use a table with two columns. The first column header is ‘Objective’ and the second column header is ‘KPIs’. There will be between 1 and 5 rows depending on how many objectives seem necessary. Each row should be a SMART objective, accompanied by the specific KPIs that define success for that objective.
In my own words, the results I would like to achieve in my digital marketing are [insert what results you would like to achieve, in your own words]
Audience Persona
You are an expert social media marketing researcher that speaks and writes fluent English.
Your task is to generate a detailed audience persona for a [insert business type] that sells [insert product or service]. The audience is [insert what you know about your audience].
Structure your response to fit this PowerPoint template. Which is:
- Name
- Demographics
- Location
- Income
- Marital Status
- Gender
- Age
- Defining Traits
- Goals
- Focus on the final outcomes that the person imagines – the person they become, the business they build. Think big, not about the individual steps or details.
- Favourite Brands
- What brands does this person like and trust?
- Frustrations
- What’s getting in the way of this person achieving their goals?
- What are their general pain points with this area of life or work?
- Informational Needs
- What does this person search Google for, ask peers on Reddit and social media about?
- Preferred Platforms
- Where does this person spend time in social media and online in general?
- Marketing Messages
- Given all that we know, what are the key promises or propositions (try 3 short sentences) we want to communicate repeatedly and consistently to this person over time?
Channel Strategy
You are an expert social media marketing strategist that speaks and writes fluent English.
Based on my objectives and my audience persona, plus any other information I provide, create a channel strategy for social media. This will suggest the most effective social media marketing channels to reach our audience personas and objectives. Present this in table format.
The column headers are the names of suggested channel names such as ‘Facebook’, ‘LinkedIn’, ‘TikTok’ et al. Consider any key social media channels whether organic or paid in your suggestions.
The row headers are: ‘Audience’, ‘Core Purpose’, ‘Content Formats’, ‘KPIs’, ‘Budget’.
My objectives are as above. My audience personas are as above. [Optionally insert any extra information about the business].
Content Pillars
Following on from the above chat about channels
Now suggest between 2 and 6 content pillars. These core themes will be what all of my content will cluster around, to demonstrate my depth of expertise, passion and values to both the human audience and content recommendation algorithms such as YouTube and TikTok. They should mostly be expertise-based, whilst some can also be used to show what kind of people we are, so that we may differentiate in our industry and attract a like-minded audience.
Present the content pillars in a table. The first column header is ‘Pillars’, and each row describes a pillar. The second column header is ‘Topics’. This describes the key sub-topics that comprise that pillar. These may be somewhat like what we would in SEO call keywords. Format the topics cell as a dashed un-numbered list.
The topics I know most about are:
[List the main things you know about. Don’t overthink this – fire off as many ideas as possible, ChatGPT will sort through it and make sense of it all].
The core values and passion points I want to connect with my target audience around are:
[Describe the values that underpin your business purpose, and also the main parts of your business you are most passionate about].
Content Ideas
Go to answersocrates.com and input one of your topics. Copy the most relevant questions.
Alternatively, search for your topic on Google and copy questions from the ‘People Also Ask’ section in the search results page.
Make a list as long as you can of these questions and use the following prompt in ChatGPT:
You are an expert social media marketing copywriter that speaks and writes fluent English.
You will create a social media content plan comprising content ideas for videos and social media posts for a [business type] who wants to become known as an authority in [your pillar].
This content plan will make up a cluster of content pieces around the central topic of [your topic]. The content ideas must answer the following questions, which are also the search keywords we want to rank for in social discovery and search:
[list of questions]
Optimise the content titles for social media search rankings based on each keyword. Many keywords will be very similar in meaning and we do not need duplicate content around the same idea. Your initial job is to work out what unique keywords there are here, and then produce ideas for them. Present the plan as a table where the first column is headed ‘Content Title’ and the second column is headed ‘focus keyword’.
Paid Media Landing Page
Write up an outline of a landing page for my paid social media campaign, describing the elements on the page, the visuals and the copy. Remember to include these five vital elements:
Clarity – Communicate one idea and one idea only about the product or service
Context – Communicate exactly how you create the value you promise
Creative – Bring your words to life by helping the customer visualise the value – images or video
Call To Action – Remind them of the value, and the ease of taking action, whilst draining objections
Credibility – Cap it off with a layer of social proof and trust signals – logos, facts, reviews etc.
Once finished, ask me if I am happy, take any feedback and once approved help me work through the coding of this page.
Paid Media Plan
Create a targeted paid social media ad campaign plan based on user requirements and provided references. Begin by asking up to 5 key questions to clarify the user’s goals and audience. Refine the campaign plan iteratively using user feedback. Ensure the plan includes clear objectives, audience details, compelling messaging, creative ideas, budget distribution, and tracking metrics.

Execution Roadmap
You are an expert social media marketing strategist and project manager that speaks and writes fluent English.
Create an executional roadmap for a social media marketing plan based on the following information:
- Timespan of [timespan of your plan e.g. 6 months]
- Start and end dates are [start and end date of the plan’s timespan]
- Objectives are as above.
- Social media channels are as above.
- Campaigns I plan to run are [paste in campaign information in any format if you have it, remember ChatGPT can work with messy inputs]
- Key dates that must be included are [define any key dates such as product launches, campaign start dates, Black Friday et al]
- Frequency of review milestones to include is every [frequency at which you’d like to schedule reviews of your planned marketing activity e.g. week, month or quarter]
Present the roadmap in table format. The first column is headed ‘Date’ and will show the date of this particular milestone in the roadmap in the format ‘6th Nov 2026’. The second column is headed ‘Milestone’ and will detail the nature of this particular milestone. The third column is headed ‘Actions’ and will list in an un-numbered list format what likely actions will be taken on the day of, and following, this particular milestone. You will discern what these tasks likely are from the above information.
Remember to include review milestones at the frequency specific above. These are regular review meetings in which we will assess the progress of the marketing activity based on the KPIs, and adjust our tactics as needed.
Once you have returned your response, ask me if the roadmap could be improved – yes or no. If I answer yes, ask me what other information I could have provided to improve the roadmap. Encourage me to feed you more information to improve the results.
